Beginning in 2015, each first year student is provided with access to the Wheelock Virtual Lab (vLab) for academic use. The virtual computers are equipped with the complete Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and classroom software, as well as helpful links to IT resources. The vLab can be reached on Mac, PC, iOS and Android using the VMWare Horizon Client.
Downloading the VMWare Horizon Client
Click the links below to download the VMware Horizon Client for your Mac or PC.
For Android, Apple iOS, and Kindle, search "VMware Horizon Client" in the appstore to download the free application or follow the links below:
Configuring the VMWare Horizon Client
Start by navigating to the VMware Horizon client on your computer or mobile device and open it. When the client opens for the first time, it will prompt you to enter a server address. Enter: vLab.wheelock.edu and click Connect.
Once connected to the server, the VMware client will prompt you for your Wheelock Username and password.
Once you log in, you will be brought to your virtual desktop.
When you log off, the virtual computer you were using will stay assigned to you for 24 hours for you to resume a project or retrieve files. After this time, the virtual computer and any documents left over will be deleted automatically.
Each student is provided with 1TB of storage through their OneDrive on Office 365. All work done on your virtual machine should be saved to your OneDrive. This provides the ability to access your files anywhere and have them backed up to Microsoft's cloud.
Submitting Assignments on Moodle from your OneDrive
Begin by downloading your document to your virtual machine.
By default, the file will save to your Downloads folder.
To change this, select Download and select Save As.. on the pop up at the bottom of your browser. This will allow you to rename the file and save it to your desktop.
Next, log into Moodle and navigate to your course and assignment.
Either drag-and-drop the file into the field from your desktop or click the box to open the file explorer.
You can then navigate to the file in your Downloads folder or elsewhere on your VM and attach it to the assignment. Select Upload this File and then Save Changes to complete the assignment.
When you exit your virtual machine, the VM is destroyed and then rebuilt. This means that anything saved to the VM is lost. Always save documents to your OneDrive. We are unable to recover your documents if you save them to your virtual machine.
If you experience problems accessing or issues using your virtual machine, please submit a support request by clicking the submit a support request link at the top of the page or call 617-879-2309.
